Our Scholarship Trust was established as a registered charity in 1995 to raise funds to assist women students graduating from East York high schools to continue their studies at university.

Objectives as shown in our bylaws:

  1. to advance and promote the higher education of young women;
  2. to raise monies for the carrying out of these objects, and in particular for the presentation and distribution of scholarships;
  3. to administer monies received and collected for the purposes and objects of the Scholarship Trust;
  4. to provide facilities and equipment, and to make grants, to institutions of learning for educational purposes;
  5. to invest the monies of the Scholarship Trust not immediately required in such a manner as may, from time to time, be determined; and
  6. to do all such other lawful things as may be incidental or may be deemed to be conducive to the attainment of these objects, or any of them.

The Trust is administered by five trustees who are all members of the CFUW Leaside/East York Club. The president and vice president of the club are ex-officio trustees and the convenor, treasurer and secretary are elected at the Club's annual general meeting.

We report to the Club at the Annual General Meeting in May and our financial reports are submitted to the membership in the September and April Newsletters. The year end financial report is reviewed by a club member who reports to the club in the newsletter.

Each year we grant three scholarships to graduating students from East York Collegiate, Leaside High School and Mark Garneau Collegiate. At the present time our scholarships are $1000 each. In 2005 we also gave a donation of $3000 to the Transitional Year Program at the University of Toronto.

Beginning in 2006, we are offering a Sherry Donaldson Memorial Scholarship of $1000 to be given to a female graduate of one of the three above schools, who is a Canadian citizen proceeding to an Ontario University to study life sciences eg. pharmacy, bio-engineering. Applicants must apply through their schools.

Most of our funds come from donations from members, memorial donations and bequests. Tax receipts are issued for all donations of $10 or more.

Donations should be made payable to CFUW Leaside/East York Scholarship Trust and mailed to 482 Broadway Avenue, Toronto, Ont. M4G 2R6.
